DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman's narrow second round lead faded as Barry used a final round team score of 283 to edge past the hosts and win the LadyCat Invitational.
Getting a 68 from Noemie Pare and a 69 from Josefina Foa Torres, Barry narrowly defeated host BCU, 856-859, with Stetson following in third at 863. Pare and Torres tied for medalist honors with 54 hole totals of 210.
BCU's
Caitlin Evans-Brand, who led after the first round, finished tied for third along with Stetson's Sarah May at 211, one shot behind the winners. The freshman, who posted her lowest tournament score of the season, played bogey-free in her final round, registering two birdies. A potential birdie that would have tied her with the leaders lipped out on 18.
Evans-Brand's efforts along with a BCU team challenging a Barry team that's ranked fourth in the nation in Division II and should contend for the national championship left Head Coach
Danny Forshey pleased.
"We were phenomenal," Forshey said. "We're fighting with one of the best programs in the nation playing some amazing golf. I can't help but to be pleased."
Yudika Rodriguez came in fifth at 214, while
Sumie Francois was tied for seventh at 216 and Isavell Friberg 11
