BCU Drops Saturday Game To FAMU

Carter tallies two-hit game

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Clarence Carter tallied two hits and an RBI but Bethune-Cookman fell  6-3 to Florida A&M Saturday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

The Wildcats (6-8, 1-1) fell behind early as FAMU (6-12, 1-1) scored on a Willis McDaniel sacrifice fly in the first. The Rattlers scored four in the fourth off starter Tyler Krull (0-2) with RBI hits from McDaniel, Jared Weber, and Bret Maxwell. Weber scored on a passed ball as well to give FAMU a 6-0 advantage.

BCU answered with an RBI groundout from Carter to bring in Joe Fernando in the home half of the inning.

Both sides were limited offensively until the seventh, when the Wildcats brought in two. Josten Heron singled in Fernando, and later Heron crossed home thanks to a Chase Debonis RBI single.

FAMU starter Josh Hancock (1-2) picked up the win with three earned over six-plus innings with four hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.

Krull was saddled with the loss by allowing six earned off 10 hits in seven innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out three.

Alec Mendez tossed a clean final two innings with two strikeouts.

BCU continues its 23-game home stretch and the rubber match against FAMU on Sunday, Mar. 10.
