TAMPA, Fla. – An early Bethune-Cookman lead quickly evaporated as USF ran away with a 12-2 score Wednesday night at the USF Baseball Park.
BCU (13-22) scored first after
Josten Heron doubled and
Brady Van Hook's RBI single. USF (15-16) answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning and then eight more in the fourth.
Heron had two hits on the night and Joe Fernando tallied three. It was the sixth consecutive game the Wildcats registered nine-or-more hits.
In a predetermined staff day,
Isaak Gutierrez got the starting call and pitched two scoreless innings with a hit, walk, and strikeout.
Bryan Melendez (0-2) received the loss after allowing the three-run third. Bull starter Dylan Burns (1-1) pitched the fourth and fifth innings and scattered three hits for the win.
BCU returns to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action with a three-game series at Florida A&M that starts Friday, Apr. 12.
