TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Anthony Maldonado eclipsed 200 career strikeouts but Bethune-Cookman suffered a heartbreaker in a 6-5 10
th inning loss to Florida A&M Friday at Moore-Kittles Field.
BCU (13-23, 6-7) led 5-4 in the ninth before Malcolm Mitchell's sacrifice fly to right tied the game with two outs.
FAMU (14-22, 6-7) won the game on a Rob Robinson RBI single in the 10
th.
Maldonado set a new career-best with 13 strikeouts in a no-decision. He pitched eight innings with four hits, three earned runs, and three walks. His eighth strikeout of the evening, which occurred in the fifth, gave the junior 200 for his impressive career.
BCU totaled at least 10 hits for the fifth consecutive game, and four different Wildcats,
Brady Van Hook,
Over Torres,
Nate Sterijevski, and
Chase DeBonis each had two hits and an RBI.
Seth Lovell (2-3) took the loss with the run in the 10
th, and FAMU reliever Morgan Mendez (4-2) won the game with 3.1 innings pitched.
BCU continues Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action with the second and third of a three-game series at Florida A&M Saturday, Apr. 13. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
