TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Brady Norris tossed a gem to lead Bethune-Cookman to a doubleheader split with Florida A&M Saturday at Moore-Kittles Field.
BCU (14-24, 7-8) won the first game, 8-2, before falling 6-4 in the finale and dropped the series.
FAMU (15-23, 7-8) could not figure out Norris, who made his second start of the season. The righty gave up only three hits over 7.2 innings while striking out nine and walking three.
Meanwhile, the Wildcat offense pounded 15 hits and never trailed after scoring twice in the first.
Josten Heron led all batters with a 4-5 effort and two RBI.
Brandon Wilkes had three hits and an RBI.
Norris earned the win to move to 1-0, and
Alec Mendez pitched the final 1.1 frames with one earned run and had two strikeouts.
In the series finale, BCU rallied back from a 4-0 deficit to score three in the eighth.
Brady Van Hook and
Nate Sterijevski each singled in a run, and Wilkes tied the game with a sacrifice fly.
The Rattlers scored two in the bottom of the inning to seal the win with
Tyler Krull (0-5) charged with the loss.
Jordan Pinto threw 4.1 strong innings in relief and allowed one run off no hits, one walk, and three strikeouts.
BCU hosts its home finale Tuesday, Apr. 16 against FIU at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
