Jayla Adams Set To Join @BCUWBB

Spruce Creek Alum, 2018 News-Journal POTY Is Transferring To BCU

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman University Women's Head Basketball Coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis announced today [April 19, 2019] that Jayla Adams has joined the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament champion Lady Wildcats.

Adams, the 2018 Daytona Beach News-Journal Player of the Year, led Spruce Creek High to its first-ever 2018 Florida 9A State Championship. She averaged 16.9 points and 5.1 assists her senior season under Head Coach Kelvin Hamm. Adams was an all-area selection all four years at Spruce Creek.

She played her collegiate freshman season at Florida Atlantic University.

"We are excited about Jayla and her commitment to join our family," Blair-Lewis said. "Jayla is such an exciting player … she can dribble, pass shoot and defend . Her versatility is what makes her a complete package. We look forward to her solidifying our backcourt for years to come."

Bethune-Cookman finished the 2018-19 season with a 21-11 mark for its third consecutive 20-win season. The injury-depleted team went 12-2 down the regular season stretch and then won the MEAC tournament with a 57-45 championship game decision over Norfolk State. That gave BCU its first tournament title since 1984 and its first NCAA tournament appearance.
