GREENSBORO, N.C. – Danny Rodriguez hit three times and Nate Sterijevski homered but Bethune-Cookman fell at North Carolina A&T State, 7-4, Sunday at War Memorial Stadium.
BCU (16-30, 9-12 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) started the scoring with a couple of runs in the first. Over Torres and Danny Rodriguez each produced an RBI. Torres came via an outfield fielder's choice and Rodriguez from a single.
In the third, Sterijevski singled to set the table. Torres moved him into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, and Joe Fernando followed the game plan with an RBI single to center field.
NCA&T (23-19, 11-6) finally got to Isaak Gutierrez in the fourth with a Camden Williamson solo homer. However, the junior battled back with a Dawnoven Smith strikeout looking and a Jarrett Norman fly out.
Later, the hosts gained the lead for good with three in the seventh off Gutierrez and reliever Alec Mendez.
Gutierrez (2-3) allowed four runs off six hits in 6.2 innings. He has two walks and a strikeout.
Sterijevski clubbed a solo homer in the eighth to cap BCU's scoring.
Aggie reliever Leon Davidson picked up the win to move to 2-0. He allowed one earned run off three hits in two innings. Closer Leon Hunter Warner his eighth save with a clean ninth.
BCU remains on the road with a non-conference game Tuesday at Jacksonville University.
