GAINESVILLE, Fla. – It's not unusual to see someone from Bethune-Cookman to put themselves into the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference discussion with a performance at the Tom Jones Invitational at the University of Florida.
Carlin Berryhill and
Daniel Kiptoo had a 1-2 finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, but the weekend meet at the University of Florida was more about finalizing qualifying and seedings for next week's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference at North Carolina A&T.
The weekend's big efforts?
- The jumps. Junior Gabrielle Collins with a long jump of 19 feet, three and a half inches. It's the third best jump in the MEAC this year. Joel Sampson's triple jump of 48' 2 ½" has him second in the MEAC, and Marc McCoy (47' 11 ¼", fifth) and JaiQuan Earls (47'8", sixth) are also in MEAC contention. Earls had a 23'8 ¼ long jump, fourth best in the MEAC.
- Throws saw MEAC Outstanding Field performer Jeremiah Peters post a 156'7 effort in the discus (fourth in the MEAC), while freshman Letrice Hall (44' 9 ½) improve her shot put seeding to third.
- Berryhill (9:38.94) and Kiptoo (9:40.03) are now 2-3 in the steeplechase. Berryhill's already to No. 1 seed in the 1500.
