Box Score SANFORD, Fla. –  Bethune-Cookman won a run-shortened game one and had an eighth inning lead in game two before a weather postponement against Savannah State Saturday in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) doubleheader at Historic Sanford Stadium.

BCU (11-20) is now 4-6 in the MEAC after the victory. The Wildcats will resume with a 7-3 lead in the top of the eighth with no outs and two men aboard Sunday at 1 p.m.

Anthony Maldonado pitched a seven-inning complete game shutout as the Wildcats run-ruled the Tigers, 13-0, in game one. He set a career-high with 12 strikeouts and BCU pounded out 16 hits.

SSU (7-15-1) is now 5-5 in the conference after the setback.

Game One
Â
In the first game, Maldonado (3-3) set the tone early and the Wildcat offense responded. He gave up just three hits and had four walks against 27 batters. He started his punch-outs quickly by striking out the side in the second and had a streak of six-straight strikeouts between end of the first and third innings.

Zach Spivey was the first to break into the run column with his second inning RBI single through the right side. Joe Fernando scored after advancing to third on
Chase DeBonis' sacrifice bunt.
Josten Heron brought in the second run of the frame with a sacrifice fly to right field that plated
Danny Rodriguez.
Brady Van Hook capped the inning when he took a 2-2 pitch back up the middle for an RBI single.

BCU scored three more in the fourth.
Chase DeBonis belted a solo shot over left field, and Heron later delivered an RBI single. Again, Van Hook concluded the scoring with a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Wildcats hung a seven-spot in the sixth on six hits and no errors.
Nate Sterijevski and
Over Torres hit consecutive RBI singles, and
Brandon Wilkes cleared the bags with a three-run jack to left. With an 11-0 lead, BCU added to its total when Joe Fernando scored on a wild pitch and Heron's infield RBI hit.

Tiger starter Luis Torres-Lopez (1-3) was charged with the loss. He threw four innings with nine hits, six runs, two walks, and three strikeouts. Ian Concevitch gave up seven earned runs on six hits in an inning and a third.

BCU's series finale against Savannah State will again be played at Historic Sanford Stadium on Sunday. It marks Senior Day where BCU will honor eight Wildcats prior to the resumption of game two at 12:45 p.m. Admission is five dollars. The finale will take place after the completion of Saturday's weather postponement.Â
