DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Alexis Bermudez threw a one-hit shutout with a career-high 10 strikeouts as Bethune-Cookman downed South Carolina State 10-0 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game Saturday at Sunnyland Park.
Game two of the doubleheader was suspended and will be resumed Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. with Bethune-Cookman leading 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth. The series finale will follow.
Bermudez, the 2018 MEAC Rookie Of The Year, retired the first 10 SCSU batters en route to her third shutout of the season.
BCU (13-25 overall, 4-0 MEAC) needed just two hits to score seven third inning runs. The Wildcats drew eight walks and stole 10 bases.
Brianna Sanders and
Sasha Killings each drove in two runs while
Jacki Smith went 3-4. Killings had three stolen bases and
Quianah Mitchell two.
The Wildcats' 10 runs were a season-high.Â
