MIAMI, Fla. –Bethune-Cookman again showcased good pitching but the offense was silent in a 2-0 loss at FIU Wednesday at the FIU Baseball Stadium. 

BCU (16-32) starter Alec Mendez turned in six solid innings in a tough-luck loss. The freshman fell to 0-4 with two runs off only five hits. He issued just one walk and had three strikeouts. The Wellington, Fla. native was efficient with only 67 pitches in the start.

Relievers Tyler Krull and Bryan Melendez each tossed a scoreless inning.

It looked as if the Wildcat bats were ready to respond after Tuesday's shutout. BCU tallied three hits in the first and two in the second.

However, Panther (19-25) starter Christian Santana allowed only one hit over the last six innings of night to finish with six allowed. He walked none and rang up 10 strikeouts to advance to 2-2.

Closer Christian Dearman earned his first save with the minimum faced in the ninth.

Nate Sterijevski led the offense with two hits.

BCU continues its 16-game road trip with a stay in South Florida. The 'Cats square off against No. 23 Miami this weekend with a three-game series starting Friday at 7 p.m.
