BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama was a sweet home for Bethune-Cookman's
Jordan Williams this weekend as the Bethune-Cookman senior posted two nationally-ranked in his three event victories at the UAB Blazer Invitational and UAB Vulcan Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Williams' Saturday times in the 400 meters (47.55) and 200 (21.41) placed him 9
th and 12
th in the nation, according toÂ
tfrrs.org. Williams also registered a 300 meter victory with a personal record of 33.5.
Monae Nichols and
Marc McCoy each delivered a top 30 triple jump, with McCoy's leap of 49'6 ¼" and Nichols' 40' 1 ¼ placing 27
th and 29
th, respectively.
Nichols' weekend saw the junior take five event victories, with a long jump (19' 61/4) and a triple jump (40'1 ¼")  and the long jump (19'1 ½"), 200 (25.03) and the 60 hurdles with a personal record of 8.57 on Friday, she ran a personal best 7.61 in the 60 preliminary, but stumbled in the second round.

Jordan Williams were outstanding, I wanted to challenge them both this weekend and they showed their resilience," said BCU Head Coach
Donald Cooper. "I look for them both to have a great season. We had several others that stepped up which let me know that they are going to be key contributors to this year's team success."
Curtis Thomas moved into the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference top ten in the 60 (6.81), 200 (22.17) while Sierra Irvin delivered a 57.37 in the 400. Carlin and
Cameron Berryhill headed the distance effort with 800 times of 15:03 and 1:58.15.
On the field side,
Letrice Hall paced the Lady Wildcats with a 44'11 shot put that ranks her second in the conference while
Gabrielle Collins' 18'10" long jump puts her third. Freshman Kimani Richard had a 23'7 ¼" long jump that puts him just behind
JaiQuan Earls for the conference lead.
In the weight throw,
Jayla Hill posted a 55'7" and
Keno Tate a 52'4 ½."
"I think we started our 2020 off on the right foot," Cooper said. "All areas of the program performed well. The staff did a fantastic job handling the logistics of the trip which was extremely important. We still have a lot to do, our team is primarily young and they have to have time to develop."
BCU heads to South Carolina this week for the Gamecock Invitational at the University of South Carolina.
