2021 MEAC Hall Of Fame: Some More Stats And Stuff On Lauren McCoy

McCoy Played Key In Wildcats' Super Regional Run

DAYTONA BEACH, FL – Hall of Fame announcements barely scratch the surface when lauding the inductees.

So here are some stats and perspective to Friday's announcement that Wildcat softball pitching legend Lauren McCoy was one of five selected to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Hall of Fame 2021 Class. McCoy joins Amber Jackson, who was the offensive side of those glorious years, in being enshrined by the conference.

1) McCoy holds the Bethune-Cookman career ERA record with a 1.26 and two of the best season ERAs (1.01 in 2004 and 1.16 in 2005). Her 66 career wins is third best and 28 shutouts were second best. McCoy's winning percentage (.634) is higher than all-time victor leader Allie Garcia (83 wins, .529) and Miranda Mayse (80 wins, .592).

2) In 2003, the Wildcat pitching staff was backed by literally the best run support in the nation – Bethune-Cookman's 6.21 runs per game and .332 average both led the country.

3) Both McCoy and Katie Finn were among the top 75 in the nation for ERA in 2005.

4) McCoy and Finn had back-to-back perfect games on April 23, 2003 against Savannah State back-to-back no-hitters on April 9, 2005.

5) Her other perfect game? Wait for it … against Florida A&M on March 29, 2003. Her other no-hitters came against Norfolk State in 2004 and Missouri-Kansas City.

6) McCoy had a 1.67 ERA in 8 NCAA post-season appearances, with 1-0 losses to Texas and Oregon and a 2-1 decision to FAU.

7) McCoy's three post-season wins were those three (Florida and two vs. USF) in the 2005 Gainesville Regional.

8) McCoy did have two losses to FAMU in three MEAC tournament, so we're going to focus on the two-hit shutout she threw in Bethune-Cookman's 6-0 triumph in the 2004 finale.

9) McCoy and Bethune-Cookman were one of only five teams to keep Texas scoreless for 7 innings in 2005. Two of those programs (Michigan and UCLA) were in the WCWS.
