SAVANNAH, Ga. – Bethune-Cookman University's
Christian Hovstadius shot a final round of four-under par 68 to move from 11th to a tie for fourth at the Invitational at Savannah Harbor hosted by William and Mary Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats were 14th in the 19-team tournament.
Hovstadius played the par 3s at a tournament-best six-under while registering the field's second-best birdie total (14) as he finished the 54-hole event at 72-75-68 215 – four shots behind Austin Schoonmaker at Wright State.
"I am happy for Christian, who is dealing with the loss of his grandmother," said Interim Head Coach Robert "Tony" O'Neal. "This tournament was dedicated to her memory. I am very proud of the way he responded to the challenge."
Team-wise, BCU posted a 301-303-291 895. Valparaiso won with an 869 team score.
Marcus Sundlof (76-74-72 222) tied for 29th,
Kevin Sims (73-78-77 228) tied for 63rd,
Jesper Gullstrand (80-76-74 230) tied for 71st and
Carlos Arteta (94-86-89 269) was 97th.
Sims and Gullstrand each recorded an eagle.
"The team is steadily improving each and every round," O'Neal said. "I'm excited about what the rest of the spring has to offer."
The Wildcat men return to action Feb. 23-25 at the St. Leo Invitational.
