Mendez Shines In Shutout Of CCSU

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Alec Mendez struck out a career-high 10 in a career-best eight innings as Bethune-Cookman won a pitcher's duel with Central Connecticut State Saturday, taking a 1-0 victory at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
 
Mendes improved to 2-0 on the season, giving up two hits.
 
Carlos Lequerica struck out two in the ninth for the save.
 
Josten Heron manufactured the game's only run with a sixth inning single, then moving to third on a hit-and-run and scoring on Enrique Porchas' single.
 
The teams meet again Sunday at 1 p.m.
