.@BCUWBB Manager Jasmine Walker To Be Featured On E:60 Friday

The story of Jasmine Walker's unmatched resilience gets a national spotlight Friday when E:60 airs its segment on the Bethune-Cookman University Women's Basketball Manager at 7 p.m.

Emmy-award winning sports journalist Shelley Smith has followed Walker from the times her family was homeless in San Diego,  to her success on the basketball court as an all-state performer and eventually  to Bethune-Cookman, where she tried out for the four-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champion Lady Wildcats, but an abundance of depth at the forward position denied her a roster spot. Head Coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis offered a manager's position to Walker, a sophomore honor roll student majoring in sports psychology.

"Jasmine's story is one of hope and perseverance for anyone who is facing insurmountable odds. I knew that our staff and team could stand to learn more from this dynamic young woman than I could ever teach her," Blair-Lewis said. "Her story took courage to tell and I pray that through her challenges she can help others who need hope and need to believe that God is in the details of our lives. As a coach, winning in the lives of our students are the wins that truly matter."

Smith and ESPN productions crews visited the BCU campus in November to work on the segment, which was preceded by Smith's written piece that posted on ESPN.com Thursday morning.

"Jasmine embodies the qualities that our founder, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, set forth when she established this great University," Blair-Lewis said. "The qualities of persistence, faith, resiliency and hope. Mary's legacy lives on in the lives of students like Jasmine."
