SAN MARCOS, Tex. – Bethune-Cookman's late rally fell short as Texas State completed the series sweep with a 4-3 victory over the Wildcats Sunday.
Down two runs, the Wildcats (5-11) started a two-out rally in the ninth when
Silas Grinstead drew a walk on four pitches then
Ryan Ayrey was hit by a pitch.
Shamir Morales singled home pinch runner
Franki Febles, but a strikeout ended the rally.
For the second straight day, BCU was leading only to see Texas State (12-4)Â snatch the lead, this team with a three-run sixth.
BCU tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth when
Enrique Porchas scored on
Shamir Morales' liner to right. The Wildcats took the lead the next inning when Porchas singled home
Rafael Padilla.
Steven Ortiz (0-1) took the loss for BCU.
Brady Norris started and struck out four while
Seth Lovell worked two innings of scoreless relief.
BCU hosts Fairfield Tuesday night.
