Dallas Blocks Ten, But Wildcats Fall to Jackson State on Senior Day

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – In their final home match of the season, the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats fell to Jackson State 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Moore Gymnasium.

Bethune-Cookman (5-16, 5-5 SWAC) dropped the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-14.

The Wildcats showed life in the third set with a commanding 25-12 win. They hit .417 for the set with 12 kills, and they limited Jackson State to a -.143 hitting percentage. The Wildcats could not build on that momentum, however, falling in the fourth set, 25-10.

Sunday's match was the final career home game for several Wildcat seniors. Ayanna Henry, Jordan Chenault, Kortney Curtis, hitter Kaylan Curry, Ny'Asia John, and team manager Shakaiya Johnson were all honored prior to the game.

"Some of our seniors committed going into their junior year of high school, so this is a group we've technically been with for six years," Wildcats head coach Brittany Williams said. "To finally see them get to play this year after being out last year and not competing and just step up and lead this team has been amazing."

Jackson State (9-11, 9-0 SWAC) was led on offense by Alexis Williams with 18 kills. Setter Damassy Thompson finished with 42 kills.

B-CU's Alleah Dallas stuffed the stat sheet with a whopping ten total blocks, tying her for third place in program history for blocks in a game. Jacynta Williams finished with 20 digs

The Wildcats enter their final road stretch of the season with six games remaining in the regular season, all against SWAC opponents. That stretch begins with a trip to Grambling, Lou., for a conference cluster starting with University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff. That game is scheduled for Sat, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m.
