Wildcats Come Up Short at Alabama A&M

Box Score Huntsville, Ala. – The Wildcats and Bulldogs traded scores for much of the game, but it was Alabama A&M that came out on top, 35-27, Saturday afternoon in Huntsville.

How It Happened
Alabama A&M struck first in the contest. A short B-CU punt set the Bulldogs up at the B-CU 45, and a seven-yard touchdown run six plays later punched it in for an early 7-0 lead.

With just over four minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Bulldogs forced a Wildcat turnover just past midfield, taking over at their own 30-yard line an 11-play, 66 yard drive saw AAMU take a 14-0 lead just as the scoreboard turned to the second quarter.

The Bulldogs drove the length of the field midway through the second quarter, threatening to score before Omari Hill-Robinson picked off AAMU's Xavier Lankford at the goal line. The Wildcats turned the turnover into seven points with an impressive, 11-play, 93-yard drive capped off by a touchdown run by Jalon Jones. An AAMU pass interference call setup the Wildcats at the two, and Jones did the rest.

A quick three-and-out gave the Wildcats the ball back just behind midfield. It did not take long for the Wildcats to capitalize. A 30-yard dart from Jones to Kemari Averett put the Wildcats on the 28, and Que'Shaun Byrd found the endzone two plays later to knot things at 14-14.

The Bulldogs opened the second half with a scoring drive to push them ahead, 21-14 on a nine-yard touchdown pass.

After a pair of punts from both sides, the Wildcats found the endzone once again with just over three minutes in the third quarter on a touchdown pass from Jones to Marcus Riley that made it 21-20 AAMU. The Wildcats attempted a two-point conversion but were unsuccessful.
The back-and-forth continued as the Bulldogs put together a 75-yard touchdown drive to cap off the third quarter up 28-20.

B-CU's offense continued to click as the fourth quarter opened, but a 32-yard field goal attempt from Dylan Moghaddam came up short to end the drive.

AAMU took over and drove the field once again to make it 35-20 on a three-yard passing touchdown.

AAMU all but sealed the game with four minutes to play, hitting quarterback Tyrone Franklin as he threw and intercepting the ball at the AAMU 18.

The Wildcats put one more touchdown on the bard with 12 seconds remaining in the game as Byrd found the endzone for the second time in the game.
