Prairie View, TX – The Wildcats took one of three games in this weekend's SWAC cluster, taking down Arkansas – Pine Bluff and dropping two hard-fought five-setters to Prairie View and Grambling State.
Game One – PVAMU 3, B-CU 2
The Wildcats battled back in game one Sunday, forcing a fifth set after dropping the first two.
Mecca Freeman led the way with 11 kills, while Alisha Callender racked up 40 assists and Adriana Marrero 26 digs.
Kytal Price led the defensive effort with 5 blocks, while Alleah Dallas and Malina Spencer each followed with four.
Game Two – B-CU 3, UAPB 0
The Wildcats swept the Lions in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader in three closely-contested sets.
Again, Freeman topped the B-CU stat sheet with 13 kills, followed by Price with 11.
Callender led B-CU in both assists with 29 and digs with 13.
The Wildcats limited UAPB to a 0.009 hitting percentage on the evening. Dallas led with 5 blocks, followed by Freeman with three.
Game Three – Grambling 3, B-CU 2
The final game of the weekend cluster was another hotly-contested, five-set contest, with the Wildcats dropping the final frame by a heartbreaking final score of 15-13.
No team won back-to-back sets.
Jasmine Moore led the Wildcat attack with 15 kills, with Jaedyn Newman following behind with 13.
Callender stuffed the stat sheet with another 40-assist game, as well as 23 digs. Marrerro added 20 digs of her own.
Dallas again led B-Cu with six blocks, followed by Spencer with five.
Notes
- Wildcats head Coach Brittany Williams sits only one win shy of tying the program's all-time coaching wins record of 73 set by Vanessa Cogswell, who coached the Wildcats from 2004-2010.
- Alisha Callender has three 40-assist games this season. The Wildcats reached that mark as a team only twice last season.
- Aleah Dallas sits at 81 total blocks this season with four games to go. She finished last season with 99 blocks. She currently ranks sixth in B-CU volleyball history with 232 career blocks – eight shy of moving up to fifth place.
- The Wildcats currently sit in eigth place in the SWAC volleyball standings, a half-game in front of Prairie View A&M. The top eight places earn a spot in the conference championships, set to begin on Friday, Nov. 18 in Houston, Tex.
