CARY, N.C. –
Katie Robinson finished tied for fifth on Sunday in helping Bethune-Cookman to a fourth-place finish in the SAS HBCU Women's Golf Championship at Prestonwood Country Club. With heavy rains surrounding the Raleigh-Durham area for much of Saturday, the originally scheduled 54-hole event was modified to a 36-hole format.
Katie Robinson, a junior for the Maroon and Gold, continued her blistering start to the 2023-24 campaign with her second top five finish of the season – in addition to the California native's third top 10 finish for the fall campaign. Robinson carded an opening round two-over 72, before then firing a second round three-over 73 for a collective 145 (+5) scorecard, allowing her a tie for fifth place on the final leaderboard.
Kyleigh Leaf, a redshirt senior from Brownsburg, Indiana, finished tied for 21st in the tournament, with the Brownsburg High product carding rounds of 78 and 77, respectively, to give her a collective 155 (+15). Finishing alongside Leaf in a tie for 21st in the field was graduate transfer
Jenna Werle (77-78), with the Cocoa, Florida native registering two of her best rounds thus far on the season in the process.
Kamary Leaf fired a second round 9-over 79 that allowed her to finish tied for 24th in the field in what was just her second event of the fall campaign.
The final golfer for the Wildcats was
Skylar Kew, with the Dundas, Ontario product turning in an opening round 8-over 78, matching her lowest round with that department. Kew would go on to rank 27th overall in the final standings.
As a team, Bethune-Cookman (305-307=612, +52) finished fourth in the tournament.
Howard won the team trophy, followed by Delaware State as runner-up.
Howard's Kendall Jackson (70-69=139, -1) claimed the individual medalist award as the sole player in the tournament to turn in an under-par scorecard. Teammate Emily Mayne (70-72=142, +2) finished as individual runner-up.
Bethune-Cookman gets back to the links Monday, Oct. 23, when the Maroon and Gold travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to participate in the Lehigh Invitational.
