MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Bethune-Cookman's
Mia Delahoussaye enjoyed another strong night, but the Wildcats could not overcome Alabama State as they fell, 3-0 at Lockhart Gymnasium in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Volleyball matchup. Alabama State was victorious by set scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-16.
Bethune-Cookman (3-18, 3-7 SWAC) qucikly opened up a 7-1 lead in the first set, which they maintained to a score of 16-10. From there Alabama State (11-12, 10-0 SWAC) rattled off eight straight on the way to the set one win.
The second set saw neither team string together more than three points in row, with the Hornets holding on for the narrow victory.
Set three was all Hornets, as Alabama State opened with 11 unanswered. The Wildcats managed only five kills in the set as the Hornets prevailed for the win.
Delahoussaye led the Wildcats in kills for the second time this weekend, with 13, hitting .464 for the afternoon.
Niara Hightower led the contest with four block assists.
Alisha Callender added 16 assists, while
Essence Bell collected 14 digs.
Next up for B-CU, the Wildcats return to Moore Gymnasium to host a SWAC cluster, with a trio of games set for Oct. 29-30. It will be dig pink weekend for B-CU.
