HOUSTON -
Mia Delahoussaye totaled 23 kills Monday night as Bethune-Cookman Volleyball claimed a 3-2 thriller victory over Southern University in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest inside the Health & Physical Education Arena. The match was part of the SWAC Cluster #1 event held on the campus of Texas Southern.
BCU secured the match on set scores of 22-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-22, 15-13.
Bethune-Cookman (3-14, 3-3 SWAC) dropped the first two sets by only 3 and 4 points to start. The Jaguars were up 2-0, and the Wildcats were looking to make a statement. By the middle of the 3rd set, the Cats commanded a 10-6 lead over Southern, and their confidence began to shine.Â
In the fourth set, Elizabeth Philips totaled 7 kills and 14 total attempts. Minutes before the end of the set, the Wildcats commanded a 23-22 lead over SU. But in the end, their efforts fell just short, and it was the Jaguars who claimed Set No. 4 by only 3 points.
The fifth and final set would be the decision maker for the game-winner. Multiple Wildcats came up strong with 40 total blocks.

Essence Bell dominated the Wildcat defense with 22 total blocks. As the final minutes approached, the score stood at 14-13 in favor of BCU. The victory came shortly after resulting in a serving error from the Jaguars.Â
Bethune-Cookman returns to action Monday afternoon in the third match of the event when the Wildcats face host Texas Southern at 2 p.m. ET.
