Sacramento, CAL. - Bethune-Cookman AD and former NBA All-Star Reggie Theus will be recognized during the Sacramento Kings' Centennial Night, which celebrates the past 100 years of the franchise. Theus and some fellow Kings' legends will be honored prior to tonights' matchup between the Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings. The game begins at 10:00 p.m. EST.
Theus was acquired by the Kings two seasons prior to their move to Sacramento. He had already been selected to two All-Star teams with the Chicago Bulls and continued his strong play with the Kings. They won 12 of their first 17 games after Theus joined the team.
On October 25, 1985, Theus scored the first basket in Sacramento Kings history. The Kings lost their season opener that year to the Clippers 108-104. Theus was also the Kings' leading scorer in the game with 24 points.
During his stint with the Kings,
Reggie Theus averaged 18.8 points and 8.1 assists across his four seasons with the franchise. He was able to lead the team to the playoffs in 1984 and 1985.
Over the course of his career, Theus scored 19,015 points and had 6,453 assists. He was a nominee for the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023.
