DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – There was XFL football, USFL football and some indoor football (with former Bethune-Cookman Wildcats scattered throughout) on Saturday, but the only football that truly mattered to us was the second spring scrimmage at Daytona Stadium.
Here are some notes and quotes to tide you over to the Spring Game April 22 at 4 p.m.
HEAD COACH RAYMOND WOODIE: "We learned that we can move the ball and we can throw the ball. We didn't have that many self-inflicting penalties which excites me. If you don't hurt yourself, you have a chance
"The players want it and they're working. You either get better or worse, Nothing stays the same."
My notes:
1) They had this scoring system between the offense and defense. The defense won 72-49. What did that mean? I have no earthly clue.
2)
Joshua Thornhill registered a pick six that probably had something to do with that.
3) Thought the DBs did a good job of containing the deep threat.
4)
Daveno Ellington had the best play of the day with a long catch and run from
Walter Simmons. Ellington and
Cameron Overton had nice TD catches in red zone situations.
5) QB still is a battle. Simmons, Dominic Ponder, Ethan Daytilio and Tyrone Franklin all had moments.
6)
Anthony Frederique is going to be a good kicker.
7) Lot of teams visited and it was good to see how good Coach Woodie and staff are establishing themselves.
8) No fish this time. Saving myself for the breakfast and tailgating at the Spring game.
Kelvin G Mayner and the Omegas better have a hamburger ready for me.
Tailgate starts at 1 p.m. with kickoff at 4 p.m.
