ORLANDO, Fla. - A late homer from
Brian Perez was not enough as the Wildcats dropped their final midweek contest of the season to UCF, 11-7, Tuesday night in Orlando.
The Wildcats (27-23, 18-7 SWAC) crossed the plate first in the top of the first as
Hylan Hall doubled home
Garrett Chun to make it 1-0, B-CU.
UCF (30-23, 10-11 AAC) took the lead in the second on a two-run homer to left. They added another run on an RBI single an inning later.
The Wildcats grabbed a run back in the fourth as
Robert Moya's groundout allowed
Jason Hodges to score.
UCF push the lead to 7-2 in the fifth in a four-run inning featuring an RBI fielder's choice, double, and sacrifice fly. They scored another in the sixth on another sacrifice fly.
B-CU made it 8-4 in the seventh on a Boria Pena solo homer and
Brian Perez groundout that scored
Jorge Braceras.
UCF took those runs right back in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch and RBI single. They made it 11-4 with a solo shot in the eighth.
The Wildcats mounted a rally in the ninth as
Brian Perez homer to left center, scoring
Carlos Oquita and
Franki Febles, but that was all for B-CU as they fell 11-7.
Marcos Gamboa made the start. In two innings, he allowed two runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Louis Lipthratt took the loss. He allowed a run in two innings with three strikeouts.
Gerald Bess,
Derrius York, and
Yoansell Diaz combined to pitch the final four innings.
The Wildcats will wrap up the regular-season slate with a three-game series with Jackson State beginning Thursday, May 18 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark
