Santos Sets Program Record As Wildcats Blank Jackson State

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Nolan Santos's outstanding Wildcats career reached new heights Thursday night as he set a new B-CU program record for strikeouts in a single season in a 5-0 Wildcats win, Thursday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Header How it Happened

Nolan Santos wasted no time collecting strikeout number 114 on the season, striking out Daniel Bannon for the second out of the top of the first to surpass his own program record of 113, set last season.

The Wildcats (28-23, 19-7 SWAC) did nearly all of their damage in the first inning as Boris Pena singled up the middle to score Luis Tuero,  Robert Moya doubled, scoring Garrett Chun, and Manny Souffrain singled to score Pena to quickly make it 4-0 B-CU.

From there, Jackson State (27-22, 12-16 SWAC) and starter Christian Womble kept the Wildcats hitless until the eighth inning, when Chun singled and came around to score on a Hylan Hall double.

The Tigers put two runners on in the ninth, but they could not push a run across as B-CU finished off the shutout.

Santos made the start. He tossed six innings of scoreless ball, allowing only three hits and a walk while striking out 11. He earned his seventh win of the season.

Dale Michaud covered the final three innings, allowing only three hits with four punchouts.
