DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Playing the final nonconference match of the 2024 spring season, Bethune-Cookman Women's Tennis suffered a 4-1 setback to IUPUI on Thursday afternoon in a match taking place at Derbyshire Park.
The match went immediately to singles without a doubles point played on the day.
Bethune-Cookman (2-15) collected the opening point at No. 6 as
Courdeja Clark took the win by default.
IUPUI (6-6) evened the match at No. 2 using Chloe Bailey's 6-1, 6-0 win over the Wildcats'
Jalayah Shaw.
At the top singles position, Elle Kotre defeated BCU's
Janet Imbo Nloga in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to put the Jaguars on top in the match at 2-1.
Allexii Bassette represented the Wildcats in the No. 4 singles spot, taking on Gabbie Orlando of IUPUI. Bassette battled hard but came up just short in a pair of tight sets, with Orlando prevailing 6-4, 6-4 to make it 3-1 for the Jaguars.
In the final completed singles match at No. 5, Bethune-Cookman's
Keona Burley fell in a very tight match to IUPUI's Sofia Castillo by identical 7-5 scores, wrapping up the match 4-1 for the visitors.
A match that went unfinished was at No. 3, as BCU's
Tuhina Sambhus looked to win her third consecutive match as she took on Emma Dell of the Jaguars. Sambhus won the opening set 6-2, before dropping a 6-3 decision in the second. The third set was underway with BCU's Sambhus up 1-0 when the match was abandoned.
Bethune-Cookman hosts Florida A&M to Derbyshire Park for a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest on Saturday, March 30.
