Wildcats Close Out Series Sweep of AAMU

Rivera threatens steals record in 10-6 win

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman closed out a three-game sweep of Alabama A&M with a 10-6 win, Saturday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Header How it Happened

AAMU (3-23, 1-8 SWAC), just as they had done in the prior two games on the weekend, opened the first inning with runs. This time, it was a four spot thanks ot an RBi single and three-run homer that made it 4-0 in a hurry.

Wildcats (15-11, 7-1 SWAC) took one back in the bottom of the first as Sergio Rivera walked, stole second and third, and scored on a wild pitch.

A wild bottom of the second put the Cats in front as a double and walk put two runners on for Colton Olasin. The senior second baseman dropped down a bunt back to the mound. A pair of Bulldog errors allowed Olasin to reach and come all the way around to score on a little league home run play that tied the game at 4-4.

The rally continued for B-CU as a bunt single, hit-by-pitch, and walk allowed Jose Gonzalez to walk in a run to give B-CU a 5-4 lead.

The Bulldogs tied things at five in the fourth on a sacrifice fly.

The Cats jumped in front for good in the bottom of the fourth as Gonzalez singled in Rivera to make it 6-5. Two more Wildcat runs came across as Ramses Cordova plated Gonzalez with a sacrifice fly and Manny Souffrain scored on a Bulldog error.

The Wildcats added a pair an inning later on a Rivera ground rule double and a Gonzalez RBI triple to make it 10-5.

Alabama A&M scratched one back with an RBI single in the eighth, but that was all as B-CU held on for the 10-6 win.

Daniel Gaviria was awarded the win after five innings in which he allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
