DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - UCF proved too much to handle as Bethune-Cookman dropped the first of two midweek contests, 14-1, Tuesday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
UCF (19-7, 6-6 Big 12) struck early with a three-run, capitalizing on a Wildcat error with four-straight hits to make it 3-0 in a hurry.
The Kights added four runs in the fourth, loading the bases with two outs before a bases-loaded walk, hit-by-pitch, and single increased the lead to 7-0.
The Wildcats (15-12, 7-1 SWAC) managed their first hit in the bottom of the fifth, leading to B-CU's first run of the ballgame on a
Sergio Rivera RBI single that scored
Jorge Rodriguez.
USF added runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth on the way to the 14-1 win.
Colby Lipovsky took his first loss of the season after 3.2 innings in which he allowed seven runs, four earned, on six hits. He struck ou t three.
Dylan Dudones,
Yoansell Diaz,
Carlos Jazmin, and
Sebastian Garrido combined to finish things up out of the pen for B-CU.
- Serio Rivera recorded a 2-3 night at the plate with a double, RBI and walk.
- B-CU stranded nine runners in the game. UCF stranded 13.
The Wildcats will get right back to work Wednesday as they head to the state capitol to take on Florida State, Wednesday, April 3. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
