Cordova Homers as Cats Take Opener

Second homer in as many games for Ramses

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Wildcats led early and never looked back in a series-opening win over Mississippi Valley State, Friday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Header How it Happened

The Wildcats (20-17, 10-4 SWAC) jum[ped in front early with two runs in the first on a Jose Gonzalez RBI triple and a double steal of home that sent the ball sailing into centerfield for a quick 2-0 B-CU lead.

B-CU added three in the second as Garett Chun doubled home Daniel Figueroa and Peter Vazquez. The Wildcats loaded the bases and pushed another run across on a Manny Souffrain RBI walk before a double play ended the threat.

MVSU (9-22, 1-14 SWAC) plated its only run of the contest in the top of the third on an after a throwing error prolongued the Delta Devils inning and an RBI single made it 3-1.

A Delta Devils balk gave B-CU one more in the bottom of the fourth as Chun came into score after the pitching misstep.

To open the bottom of the seventh, Ramses Cordova sent a homer deep over the batting cages in left for his second homer in as many games. B-CU loaded the bases from there but could not score again.

Colton Olasin added one more in the bottom of the eight on a sacrifice fly to make it 8-1, which the Wildcats would hold onto for the final.

Tanner Boccabello improved to 5-1 on the season after eight strong innings in which he allowed only one unearned run on seven hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Sebastian Garrrido finished things off in the ninth with a clean frame.
