MANHATTAN, Kan. –
Katie Robinson fired a team-low five-over-par 77 Tuesday afternoon as Bethune-Cookman Women's Golf wrapped up play at the season opening The Powercat Invitational hosted by Kansas State at Colbert Hills Golf Course.
Competing in the school's first-ever event hosted by a Big 12 Conference member, Bethune-Cookman (345-347-333=1025, +161) placed 16th in the field of 16.
Robinson, the 2024 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Individual Champion, lowered her round scores by at least four strokes, respectfully, after an opening round 88. She would fire a second round 81, followed by a final round 5-over 77 – the lowest individual round by any B-CU golfer over the course of the two-day event. The American Canyon, California, native finished tied for 70th on the overall leaderboard.
Ashlie Hobbs, a graduate transfer from Cardiff, Wales, fired an 85 in her first-ever round for the Wildcats, but was able to bounce back for a second round 83, followed by a final round 81 – lowering her round scored by two each time out, respectively The All-SWAC transfer from Texas Southern finished second on the B-CU squad in scoring and 72nd on the final individual leaderboard.
Skylar Kew, a junior for the Wildcats from Dundas, Ontario, led the Maroon and Gold after Monday's opening 18 holes with a scorecard of 84. She would post a second round 87, and then a final round 88 on Tuesday, allowing her to place in a tie for 80th with a two-day, three-round 259 (+43).
Using a final round 87 – her lowest of the tournament, was sophomore
Meeya Marquez (88-96-87=271, +55) finishing 83rd overall for the event.
The final golfer for the Cats was redshirt senior
Kamary Leaf (97-98-91=286, +70) who finished 84th.
Host Kansas State (288-293-279=860) took home the team title, as the top three individual medalists for the event came from KSU, including tournament individual champ Carla Bernat (70-71-67=208, -8).
Bethune-Cookman will next travel to The Match at the Marsh hosted by Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida.
