BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Bethune-Cookman's Alyssa Lopez has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Pitcher of the Week for the period of February 19-24, announced Wednesday afternoon by the league office from its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.
 
Lopez, a 5-foot-6 senior from Fontana, California, is collecting her first-ever SWAC Pitcher of the Week award after turning in her first win of the season against nonconference and cross-county opponent Stetson last weekend as part of the Hatter Classic hosted by the Stetson Hatters in DeLand, Florida.
 
The Bishop Amat High alum worked a total of 11.1 innings last week in games against North Florida, Wofford, Fairfield and Stetson, respectively. Lopez produced a career-high seven strikeouts in a season-long 5.1 innings in the circle against Fairfield. She came back to toss 4.1 innings, allowing just two runs and scattering four hits in picking up the win over Stetson, as Bethune-Cookman went 2-0 on the second day of the Hatter Classic. The Wildcats finished 3-2 overall in the event.
