DeBARY, Fla. –
Katie Robinson led all Bethune-Cookman scorers Tuesday afternoon as the Wildcats finished the third and final round of the Babs Steffens Invitational taking place at DeBary Golf and Country Club. The two-day, 54-hole event was hosted by Stetson in DeBary, Florida.
After a tough 36-hole day on Monday, all but two Bethune-Cookman golfers lowered their scorecards during Tuesday's finale.
Katie Robinson finished tied for 53rd in the field after firing a final round 8-over par 80. She began the tournament with an 86, only to shave eight strokes from her opening round during the second of two rounds played on Monday. The American Canyon, California native registered B-CU's lowest individual round Tuesday, finishing with a collective 244 (+28) across three rounds.
Kamary Leaf, a senior from Brownsburg, Indiana, lowered her rounds each time out, after opening with an 89 on Monday. She followed with scorecards of 85 and 81, respectively, to finish at 255 (+39) and 71st overall in the tournament field. Like another golfer for the Cats, Leaf's three-round card was her lowest 54-hole event of the 2024-25 season, besting her previous mark of 259 from the Rocket Classic hosted by Toledo.
B-CU sophomore
Meeya Marquez, playing in her fifth event of the 2024-25 season, turned in her best three-round total of the campaign. The native of Los Angeles, California fired rounds of 90, 85 and 90, allowing her to finish with a 265 collective scorecard (+49) and ranked tied for 77th overall on the final leaderboard. Her 265 is four strokes lower than her previous three-round personal best from the Rocket Classic in late-September/early-October.
Skylar Kew (93-87-93=273, +57) shaved six strokes off her opening round in Monday's second turn around the course, producing an 87 on her way to the clubhouse. She fired a mirror opening round 93 in Tuesday's finale, allowing her to place 81st in the field. The second-round 87 allowed her to match her second-lowest second-round score of the season, also producing similar rounds in the ASU Spring Classic and The Powercat Invitational.
The final golfer factoring into the scoring for the Maroon and Gold was junior
Jordan Davis (107-97-112=316, +100) from St. Petersburg, Florida, as she lowered her opening round scorecard by 10 strokes – the most of any B-CU competitor in the tournament from rounds one to two, respectfully. She would end the event 84th.
Leiahnni Smith, a junior from Lima, Ohio, had the single best individual turnaround of any B-CU golfer across any round, as she turned in a final round 91 – lowering her score from an opening round 104 by a team-best 13 strokes overall. She also carded a second round 99, becoming just the second B-CU player to manage lowering her card in every round, respectfully. Competing as an individual, she would finish 83rd on the final leaderboard with a 294 (+78), shaving 20 strokes from her previous three-round event during the Rocket Classic in her home state earlier this season.
As a team, B-CU finished 15th (358-335-344=1037, +173).
The host Stetson Hatters (296-285-295=876, +12) walked away with the team title. Jacksonville and Seton Hall followed in second and third, respectively.
Meanwhile, Jillian Fatkin (73-71-73=217, +1) of Queens College in North Carolina took the tournament medalist award.
The Wildcats will next compete in the Lady Bison Invitational hosted by Howard with the two-day event taking place March 3-4, in Gainesville, Florida.
