Cats Set for Thursday Home Match

Northern Kentucky comes to Derbyshire Park

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Fresh off the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Pod in Jackson, Mississippi, Bethune-Cookman Women's Tennis returns home for a nonconference match against Northern Kentucky on Thursday, March 13, at Sunnyland Park beginning at 11 a.m.
 
SCOUTING NORTHERN KENTUCKY
Northern Kentucky will be playing the second of two matches in the "Sunshine State" after taking on Eastern Florida State on Tuesday in Cocoa, Florida. The Norse arrive to Florida with a two-match winning streak, taking mirror 7-0 victories from Eastern Illinois and Thomas More, respectively.
 
The Norse are under the direction of Head Coach Brian Nester, now in his 13th season at the helm in Highland Heights, Kentucky.
 
NKU's Ashlee Fisk and Mariajose Hernandez have equal individual spring records with 4-3 singles marks, while Ana Isabela Serrano is 3-1 in the spring.
 
The Norse are 2-2 at home this year at Five Seasons Sports Club.
 
LAST TIME OUT FOR B-CU (vs. Prairie View A&M)
Bethune-Cookman Women's Tennis finished up the second day of the first SWAC Pod event of the year, as the Wildcats dropped a 4-0 decision to Prairie View A&M at FitNetwork USA – Cypress Lake in Madison, Mississippi.
 
Prairie View A&M grabbed the 1-0 lead in the match with two wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectfully.
 
Bethune-Cookman used the doubles tandem of Keona Burley and Anne Cerne on court three, as the Cats duo was upended 6-1 by Prairie View's team of Joanne Fernandes and Cierra Garcia. In No. 2 action, B-CU's team of Zahara El-Zein and Lesa Snipes-Williams fell 6-0 to the Panthers' Daniela Garcia and Amaya Bobadilla.
 
PVAMU collected wins at No.4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to take the match.
 
In No. 6 singles play, B-CU's Cerne was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by PVAMU's Cierra Garcia. Meanwhile, on court five, it was the Panthers' Fernandes defeating Snipes-Williams for the Wildcats in straight sets – 6-0, 6-0. Finally, in No. 3 play, B-CU's Burley dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match to PVAMU's Bobadilla.
