DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. -  Shanard Walker of B-CU Track & Field and Alyssa Lopez of B-CU Softball have been named Wildcats of the Week for the week of April 7 - April 13, 2025. 

Junior Shanard Walker continues to be impactful for the Wildcat men this season. He finished second in the 200m at the USF Invite this past weekend in Tampa and now holds the new B-CU record with a time of 20.44. Walker also tabbed a seventh place finish in the 100m and currently sits sixth in the country in the 200m.

Alyssa Lopez tossed her first career no-hitter last week during the opening game of a three-game SWAC series away to Mississippi Valley State in Itta Bena, Mississippi. Lopez, a senior right-hander from Fontana, California, became the first B-CU Softball pitcher since Alexis Bermudez in 2019 to capture a no-hitter, working five frames and fanned five batters against just two (2) walks allowed on the day in a 15-0 Wildcats win in the game. Over the course of the weekend, Lopez went 2-0 in the circle for the Maroon and Gold, securing a series sweep of the Delta Devilettes in the final game of the series on the heels of a 12-0 victory. She worked 10 innings overall on the weekend, she struck out 14 and scattered three hits with four walks against zero (0) runs allowed.

Each week, The Bethune-Cookman Office of Athletic Communications recognizes one male and one female student-athlete through the Wildcats of the Week award.

This award recognizes student-athletes who have excelled in competition, in the classroom, and in the community over the past week, exemplifying the Championship Culture of Wildcat Athletics.
