Wildcats Turn in Positive Performances in Birmingham

Robinson, Leaf attack the field on Day Two

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Bethune-Cookman senior Katie Robinson, the reigning Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Golf Individual Champion from 2024, stormed back through the field Tuesday, as Bethune-Cookman pegged back a few strokes but still maintained a third place team lead during the second round of the 2025 SWAC Women's Golf Championships taking place at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley in Birmingham, Alabama.

Katie Robinson led the Bethune-Cookman squad with a consistent performance, carding an 81 for the second consecutive day to finish the round tied for fifth place with a 36-hole total of 162 (+18). The steady play has positioned Robinson as the Wildcats' top individual performer heading into Wednesday's final round.

"Our team showed resilience today in challenging conditions that were quite windy and chilly for April here in the south," said Head Coach Harry stokes afterwards. "Katie knows what it takes to win this event, and her consistency gives us something to build on for the final round, as a team."

Robinson, a native of American Canyon, California, trails tournament leader Salma Ibrahim (82-76 = 158, +14) of Southern (La.) by four strokes after the Jaguars' top performer turned in a 4-over 76 scorecard in what is her first SWAC Championship.

Kamary Leaf posted the second-best score for the Wildcats with an 84 in round two, placing her eighth overall with a tournament total of 164 (+20). The Brownsburg, Indiana product was just two strokes off the lead with just four holes remaining on the afternoon, but still sits in her highest position after day two of the event in what is now her fourth SWAC Championship as a member of the Maroon and Gold.

Skylar Kew, a junior from Dundas, Ontario, showed improvement from her first round, shooting an 82 on Tuesday to move into a tie for 10th place with a two-day total of 167 (+23).

Freshman Meeya Marquez contributed an 85 in the second round, improving four strokes from her opening round 89, for a combined score of 174 (+30) and tied for 16th place, respectfully. Rounding out the Wildcats' lineup, Leiahnni Smith – also playing in her first-ever SWAC Championship, recorded a 110 in the second round for a two-day total of 209 (+65).

Southern University's Salma Ibrahim surged to the top of the individual leaderboard with a tournament-best round of 76 on Tuesday, giving her a two-day total of 158 (+14). She overtook Alabama State's Lucia Parada, who now sits in second place at 159 (+15).

As a team, B-CU shot a combined 332 in the second round, three strokes better than their opening-day performance of 335, for a two-day total of 667 (+91). They remain six strokes behind second-place Southern University (661, +85) and 17 strokes behind tournament leader Alabama State (650, +74).

The final day of the 54-hole event tees off at 9:20 a.m. ET (8:20 a.m. CT) back at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley.
