DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman's
Cam'Ron Ransom has been named to the 2025 Stats Perform FCS National Player of the Year Watch List, it was announced Thursday on
TheAnalyst.com.
Redshirt senior quarterback Cam Ransom, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound native of Lakeland, Florida, completed his second year with the program in 2024, retaining a redshirt for the 2023 campaign. In his first true competitive season with the Maroon and Gold, Ransom passed for a team-high 1,843 yards and 11 touchdowns, going on to register 163 rushing yards and five scores on the ground. In the process, he became the fourth quarterback since 2015 to pass for at least 1,800 yards and rush for 100 in a single season.
n the Football Championship Subdivision, the Stats Perform HBCU National Player of the Year Award honors the outstanding player from the 21 HBCU programs of the Division I subdivision in the Mid-Eastern Athletic, Southwestern Athletic, CAA Football and OVC-Big South conferences.
All positions are eligible for the award, and it was reflected in last season's 10 finalists: two running backs, two defensive backs, a linebacker, an offensive lineman, two defensive linemen and two quarterbacks, including the inaugural winner, Eric Phoenix of South Carolina State.
Southern University defensive end Ckelby Givens is the only returning finalist from last season and is part of a 20-player preseason watch list for the HBCU National Player of the Year Award.
A national panel involving HBCU/FCS coverage will select the award winner after the regular season. The recipient will be announced on Dec. 8, then honored at the Stats Perform FCS National Awards Presentation on Jan. 3, 2026 in Nashville Tennessee.
Bethune-Cookman begins the season Friday, Aug. 29, when the Wildcats travel to Florida International for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Miami. The first SWAC game for the Cats takes place Saturday, Sept. 27, when the Alabama A&M Bulldogs visit Municipal Stadium in Daytona Beach at 3 p.m.
