GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman track & field is set to travel to Gainesville to particiapte in the Jimmy Carnes Classic. The indoor outing is scheduled for Friday, January 16th, with events beginning at 9:30 a.m. EST.
Andrew Kiplagat picked up right where he left off from the cross country season with a program record first-place finish in the 3000m at the South Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex.
Kiplagat highlighted a plethora of top-10 finishes with an 8:18.68 finish in his first event of indoor season.
He was not the only Wildcat to take home the top spot in an event, as
Ashton Matthews topped the leaderboard in the high jump with a 1.95m.
Shanard Walker added to his strong start to the season with a 6.81 in the 60m, taking third in the event. He also placed second in the 200m with. a 21.31.
Jancent Wallace took third in the 200m with a 21.71, as well as second in the 400m with a 47.75.
On the women's side,
Valencia Butler finished secon in the mile with a time of 5:33.67. Also in second was
Selena Rutland, who finished as the runner up in the high jump with a 1.50m, and
Haely Grant, who posted a 57.20 in the 400m.
Morgan Middleton finished third with a 1:42.03 in the 600m, with
Nyidjah Ives finishing third in the 800m with a 2:35.71.
In the jumps,
Zion Harvey and
LaNeeya Garrison each earned top-three finishes in the long jump and triple jump, respectively.

The Jimmy Carnes Invitational will take place at the Alachua County Sports & Events Center at Celebration Pointe in Gainesvill, FL.
The Jimmy Carnes Track is a 200m banked, 6 lane track with 8 lanes of Mondo on the sprints runway. It also has 2 raised horizontal jump runways, 1 raised pole vault runway, 1 throws cage with landing area, 1 throws circle with landing area, and a high jump area on the sprint lanes. The facility also has 2 warmup lanes on the east side of the building near the clerking area.
Field events will begin at 9:30 a.m., starting with the Men's High Jump. Track events will start at 11:00 a.m., beginning with the Women's 1000 Meter Run.
