Cats Edge Jackson State for Third Straight Win

JACKSON, Miss. - Daimoni Dorsey's 15-point outing helped the Wildcats stave off the Tigers 58-50 at the Lee E. Williams Athletics & Assembly Center. The victory is the team's third straight after a 1-8 start to conference play.

1st Quarter
Bethune-Cookman (6-19, 4-8) had an excellent opening quarter, shooting 46.2% while holding Jackson State (7-17, 5-7) to just 3-of-12 from the floor.

After the Tigers tied the game at five with 6:04 remaining, the Wildcats dominated the remainder of the period. B-CU would go on a 13-3 scoring run to close out the quarter.

Daimoni Dorsey got off to a hot start, scoring eight points on an efficient 4-of-5 from the field.

2nd Quarter
The Wildcats held onto a double-digit lead throughout the second. They held Jackson State to just 14 points with just over two minutes remaining in the second quarter.

JSU would close out the half strong, finishing on an 11-3 run to cut the deficit to four.

The Tigers struggled from the field overall, but found success at the charity stripe. As a team, they shot 8-of-10 from the line in the second, including a perfect 6-of-6 from Jaileyah Cotton.

Dorsey continued her strong start, scoring five points with a three-pointer made in the frame.

3rd Quarter
Jackson State scored the first points of the second half to cut the Wildcats' lead to two. B-CU would continued to hold a slight edge throughout the quarter, not allowing the Tigers to tie or take the lead.

JSU had its best offensive quarter of the game in the third, shooting 7-of-14 from the floor. The bench was particularly stellar, recording 14 of the team's 16 points.

Madison Holden and Janessa Kelley carried the load for B-CU, combining for 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting.

4th Quarter
A Jordan Brooks three-pointer would extend the Wildcats lead to eight points.

The Tigers would go on a 9-1 run to get back within one possession but could not get over the hump. The Wildcats converted all six of their free-throw attempts during the final minute to close out the win.

B-CU continued to overwhelm the Tigers defensively, holding them to just 23.1% shooting.

  • Tyler Butler finished with a season-high 16 rebounds, also adding two blocks.

  • The Tigers were held to 34% from the field and 20% from three and shot just 59% from the free-throw line.
  • B-CU won the rebounding battle 40-27.
