Alcorn Rallies Past B-CU 66-57

LORMAN, Miss. - Madison Holden poured in 17 points and Bethune-Cookman led for nearly two full quarters, but a decisive third-quarter surge by Alcorn State proved too much as the Wildcats fell 66-57 Saturday afternoon at the Davey L. Whitney Health & Physical Education Complex.

 Header How it Happened

1st Quarter
The Wildcats (6-20, 4-9) opened the game with strong energy on both ends, jumping out to a 10-3 lead behind early baskets from Holden and Daimoni Dorsey.

Bethune-Cookman forced multiple turnovers and limited Alcorn (14-10, 11-2) to 26.7 percent shooting in the opening period.

Tyler Butler and Sanai Tyler were active on the glass, helping the Wildcats maintain possession and close the quarter with a 14-12 advantage.

2nd Quarter
Bethune-Cookman continued its offensive rhythm in the second quarter, shooting 53.3 percent from the field and extending the lead to as many as nine points.

Holden knocked down two 3-pointers in transition, while Kailyn Peters and Mya Johnson added key baskets in the paint. Dorsey capped the half with a fast-break layup, and the Wildcats went into halftime holding a 33-26 lead.

3rd Quarter
Alcorn responded with urgency after the break, using a 17-4 run to take its first lead of the game.

Maya Hunkin-Claytor caught fire from beyond the arc, drilling four 3-pointers in the quarter, including three in a two-minute span.

Bethune-Cookman kept pace behind inside scoring from Peters and Shomari Phillips. Madison Holden would tie the game at 45 with a 3-pointer late in the period. However, Alcorn closed the quarter with a free throw to take a slim 48-47 lead into the fourth.

4th Quarter
The final period featured several lead changes early, with Bethune-Cookman pulling within one on baskets from Dorsey and Jordan Brooks.

The Wildcats had multiple opportunities to regain the lead, but Alcorn capitalized on turnovers and transition chances.

The Braves went to the line 16 times in the fourth quarter and converted 12 free throws, gradually building separation.

A late 3-pointer by Hunton-Claytor with under two minutes remaining pushed the lead to eight and sealed the win for the Braves.
