CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Bethune-Cookman University dropped an 8-0 decision to Texas Tech University on Thursday morning at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

Texas Tech 8, B-CU 0
The Wildcats (3-11) collected three hits in the contest, getting singles from Kween Tauala,
Alana Cypress and
Mika Wesley. Tauala reached in the first inning and advanced to third after swiping second and moving up on an error, but B-CU was unable to capitalize. Cypress added a single in the second, and Wesley recorded a base hit in the fifth as Bethune-Cookman looked to break through offensively.
Texas Tech (13-1) struck early with three runs in the bottom of the first. After a leadoff walk and stolen base, the Red Raiders used an RBI groundout and a two-run homer from Taylor Pannell to take control. A solo home run by Lagi Quiroga in the second extended the lead, and Texas Tech added another run later in the frame to go ahead 5-0. The Red Raiders plated three more runs in the third, aided by a two-run double from Pannell and a bases-loaded walk.
Mia Gonzalez (2-5) took the loss in the circle for Bethune-Cookman, allowing eight runs (six earned) over 2.2 innings with one strikeout. Malaiyah Galindo provided relief, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings and limiting Texas Tech to no hits while working around a walk. Samantha Lincoln (4-0) earned the win for the Red Raiders, striking out five over four shutout innings.

The Wildcats finish out the Mary Nutter Collegiate Class with matchups against Oregon State and Long Beach State tomorrow beginning at 1:30 p.m. EST.
