Clutch Shooting Propels Wildcats to Win Over Tigers

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Late three-pointers by Madison Holden and Janessa Kelley helped the Wildcats fend off Texas Southern 69-64 at Moore Gymnasium

 Header How it Happened

1st Quarter
Bethune-Cookman (4-19, 2-8) had a strong first quarter offensively, shooting 53.8% from the field. The Wildcats outscored Texas Southern (9-13, 5-5) 20-15 despite three less shot attempts.

B-CU was able to force their way to the free-throw line six times, converting on five of those attempts.

The Wildcats received contributions from up and down the lineup, with seven Wildcats recording at least one point.

Taliyah Logwood led the way for the Tigers in the first, scoring eight points.

2nd Quarter
The game continued to be high-scoring in the second, with the Wildcats holding onto the slight edge throughout.

B-CU was able to extend its lead to as many as nine points, but TSU continued to put the pressure on, shooting 56.3% overall.

The Wildcats shot just 33.3% but were red-hot from beyond the arc, making three of four attempts. The Cats also grabbed six offensive rebounds and turned the ball over just once.

Daimoni Dorsey finished with 9 points to lead the Wildcats, while Taliyah Logwood topped all scorers with 17.

3rd Quarter
The Tigers hit a three-pointer out of the gate to cut the deficit to three. B-CU was able to extend the lead back to eight, but TSU fought back to get within three with 6:22 remaining

B-CU ended the quarter on a 9-2 run. Defensively, the Wildcats held the Tigers to just 10 points and 22% shooting.

4th Quarter
The Wildcats struggled offensively in the fourth quarter, allowing the Tigers to tie the game at 58 with 5:05 left in the game.

After a Kailyn Peters' jumper extended the lead to 12, the Wildcats would miss their next four shots while turning the ball over five times.

The two teams went over two minutes without a bucket until Janessa Kelley broke the ice. She made a clutch three-pointer with 2:53 remaining to give the Wildcats the lead. Taliyah Logwood made a layup on the other end to get within one before Madison Holden hit on a clutch three of her own.

The Tigers would have a chance to tie or take the lead with 24 seconds. They failed to execute, throwing the ball out of bounds which forced them to foul B-CU. Jordan Brooks made all four of her free-throw attempts to lock up a gritty win for the Wildcats.
