DELAND, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Women's Tennis opened the spring season with a 7-0 defeat to the Stetson Hatters at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
Stetson (2-2) got a head early with a dominant performance to take the doubles points. The Hatters top duo Anastasija Adeikyte and Katia Tuliakova narrowly defeated
Rosalida Asumwa and
Maria Romero Vargas 6-4 while the two other duos were defeated in 6-1 decisions.
Bethune-Cookman (0-1) struggled to garner any momentum in singles play.
Jalayah Shaw was called upon at the number one spot while Romero Vargas worked at number two. Five of the duals concluded in straight sets.
"Jalayah had a long battle. The score didn't really show how competitive it was," Coach
Chris Wollett said. "Zahara had some momentum in the second set. The number one doubles group got off to a great start, up 4-1, but then complete momentum swing."
The Wildcats return to the courts against the Hatters on February 24th, beginning at 10 a.m.
