Softball Concludes Tampa Trip

TAMPA, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman closed out the USF-Rawlings Invitational on Saturday, suffering defeats to No. 6 Florida and USF at the USF Softball Stadium.

No. 6 Florida 8, B-CU 0

In the first inning, Bethune-Cookman (0-5) was set down in order by Florida (3-0) starter Ava Brown.

The Gators proceeded to put runs on the board in the bottom of the frame, with a double followed by a home run by Taylor Shumaker.

Following another shutdown inning by Brown, Florida put two more runs on the board on a double by Gabi Comia and a sacrifice fly by Townsen Thomas.

B-CU recorded its first hit in the fifth inning. Jasmine Mañebo hit a double to right-center field for her first hit in her college career. Emma Bradley-Tse would hit a double in the seventh, but the Wildcats were unable to drive the runners home.

Florida would score two runs in the third, one in the fifth, and one in the sixth as the Gators took the victory via run rule.

B-CU starter Aimi Tohara-Yshiki finished with six earned runs in two innings of work. Malaiyah Galindo and and Mia Gonzalez allowed one run in each of their appearances in relief.


South Florida 10, B-CU 0
The Wildcats could not get anything going in the first and quickly fell behind in the bottom of the frame.

USF (2-2) finished with five runs on five hits, managing a double, a triple, and a home run.

The Bulls would have another five run inning in the third, putting them up 10-0.

The Wildcats threatened in the fourth, with back-to-back singles by Emma Bradley-Tse and Jessica Alaan, but could not score.

B-CU would finish with just those two hits, eventually falling in five innings. Starter Mia Gonazles finished with 2.0 innings of work, allowing six earned runs. Malaiyah Galindo gave up four runs in 2/3 of an inning and Aimi Tohara-Yshiki pitched 1.1 scoreless innings.
