DELAND, Fla. — Bethune-Cookman tennis is set for another non-conference matchup as they square off against the IU Indy Jaguars at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. The match begins Tuesday at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, March 17
Opponent: IU Indy (3-3, 0-0)
Time: 11 a.m. EST
Location: DeLand, FL / Mandy Stoll Tennis Center
Southern took the doubles points after a victory from its number two duo of Kai Wince and LeTasha Grant 6-3. Since the third doubles match was forfeited by the Wildcats, the top dual went unfinished.
Singles play was highly contested. However, Southern received decisive victories from Tsiang Tshegofatso and Antoine Decora, which was ultimately enough to win the match.
Maria Romero Vargas won her first set 6-2 and was ahead 5-1 in the second set before the game was called.
Zaraha El-Zein and
Taylor O'Neal also won hard-fought sets 7-5 before the conclusion of the match.
IU Indy is 3-3 on the season and have yet to begin conference play. They are just 1-3 against Division I opponents this season, with the victory coming against Western Illinois, 4-3.
The Jaguars have been led this season by senior Calli Sokolowski. She leads the squad with six singles victories.
Grace Lapman was an All-Horizon league selection last season but has gotten off to a 1-9 start in singles. However, she and Sara Jankovic has gone 3-2 as a doubles pairing.
