TAMPA — Bethune-Cookman turned in a strong all-around performance highlighted by two event victories and multiple podium finishes at the South Florida Invitational.
Michael Carter and Andrew Kiplagat led the way for the Wildcats, each claiming first-place finishes in their respective events. Carter won the men's long jump with a mark of 7.44 meters, while Amarrion Grant followed closely behind in second at 7.28 meters to give B-CU a 1-2 finish in the event.
Kiplagat added another victory on the track, taking the men's 5,000 meters in 14:33.07.
Bethune-Cookman also saw success in the hurdles and relay events. Donovan Walker-Collins placed second in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.93, while the men's 4x400-meter relay team of Ethan Sharpe, Jonathan Gaines, Walker-Collins, Shanard Walker and Jancent Wallace also secured a runner-up finish in 3:09.60.
In the field events, Nehemiah Armstrong (fourth, 52.15m) and Michael Walker (fifth, 50.83m) both placed in the top five in the men's javelin throw. Ashton Holland added a fourth-place finish in the men's discus (44.82m), while William Rothmiller placed sixth in the same event (44.07m).
On the women's side, Kasie Ugeh delivered a pair of strong performances, finishing third in the discus throw (45.26m) and sixth in the shot put (13.77m). Selena Rutland also recorded two top-six finishes, placing fifth in the triple jump (12.47m) and sixth in the high jump (1.60m).
Additional notable performances included Shanard Walker's eighth-place finish in the men's 100 meters (10.40), Jancent Wallace's eighth-place showing in the men's 400 meters (47.18), and Quiaundra Brown leading the women's sprinters with a 10th-place finish in the 100 meters (11.75).
