MONTGOMERY, ALA. –
Mia Gonzalez held Alabama State hitless through 4.2 innings as Bethune-Cookman cruised to a 9-0 run-rule victory at Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
Bethune-Cookman (16-25, 12-7) broke the game open early on in the game as they scored six runs on five hits in the second inning. The Wildcats led off the inning with two walks and later loaded the bases on a single. Emma Bradley-Tse then came through with a hit for the team's first run.
Alabama State (17-28, 10-8) could not stop the bleeding, hitting Janel Morrisey with a pitch to allow another run to score. Alana Cypress then picked up an RBI single followed by a sac fly from Kween Tauala that scored two to make it 5-0. Zariah Billinger later drove in another run on a base hit for the team's sixth run.
The Wildcats extended the lead in the fourth, as Billinger hit an RBI double to push the score to 7-0,
B-CU continued to pile on in the fifth. Morrisey recorded another RBI via sacrifice fly and Cypress recorded her second RBI single to make it 9-0.
Meanwhile, Mia Gonzalez dominated the Hornets from start to finish. She did not allow a hit until two outs in the fifth, picking up her ninth win of the season.
The series concludes tomorrow with a double header beginning at 2 p.m. EST.
