TAMPA — Wildcats track & field looks to ride the momentum of a strong week at Embry Riddle into the South Florida Invitational at the USF Track & Field Complex. The first events are set to begin on Friday at 10 a.m., with the competition concluding on Sunday evening.
Multiple program records fell as the Wildcats enjoyed a strong showing close to home at the Embry-Riddle Running Elements Classic in Daytona Beach.
Kasie Ugeh highlighted things on the women's side with her top weekend of the season. She set a new school record with a first-place finish in the discus with a 49m throw. She also finished first in the shot put at 13.87m.
On the track, the women's 4x100 team made up of
Kayla Hopkins,
Betina Jean,
Quiaundra Brown, and
Zion Harvey finished first with a time of 45.63.
As for multis, Jamilia Simmons finished first with a SWAC-best finish in the Heptathlon at 4810 points.
For the men, it was
Sha'Nard Walker with another program record, this time with a first-place finish in the 200m at 20.43m
Jonathan Gaines topped the 400m leaderboard at 48.19, while the 4x400 relay team of
Ethan Sharpe,
Sha'Nard Walker, Jancent, Wallace, and
Jonathan Gaines took first with a time of 3:09.65.
Jordan Riche grabbed a first-place finish at the hammer with a 49.74m throw.
USF Track & Field Stadium, one of the premier facilities in the Southeast, features a 4,000-seat capacity and a state-of-the-art 400-meter Mondo track—recognized as one of the fastest and most durable surfaces in the world.
The venue meets international standards with expanded lanes and upgraded field event areas, while also offering modern amenities including a press box, concessions, and medical facilities.
The stadium has hosted numerous major events, including conference championships and NCAA competitions, highlighted by the 2018 NCAA East Preliminary.
