WILDCATS WIN IN OVERTIME 66-64 - Second Career Win At Jacksonville University

2nd Career B-CU Win In 9 Games at JU : Coach Reed On Both Winning Teams

 CoachClifford Reed, Jr. comments after the B-CU Win:

 "We played with passion, energy, everybody contributed and we refused to lose," said B-CU Coach Reed, following the game Monday night.

 "It was a total team effort and to win on the road against a good team like Jacksonville, is great for our program and young team."

 "In overtime, we had to suck it up and leave everything on the floor and we did that."

 

TEAMS TIED AT 52-52 AFTER REGULATION  -   REED & HOLMES KEY OVERTIME WIN

Freshman guard C. J. Reed scored seven points of his team-high 18 points in OT and his three-pointer with 4:37 to play in the five-minute overtime, gave B-CU a 55-52 lead, a lead they would not relinquish. Senior forward John Holmes scored four points in OT and totaled 15 points in the game playing 35 minutes coming off the bench and also contributed eight rebounds and one block in the contest.

Sophomore co-captain Alexander Starling had a game-high 12 rebounds with the 'Cats out-rebounding JU 43-37 in the ball game. Nine B-CU players scored points and the team shot 45.8% from the field (22-48) and 20-33 (60.6%) from the free throw line.  Eleven of the 13 free throw misses were in the second half to help JU (2-7) get back in the game and the Dolphins briefly led twice in the final 10 minutes.

The Wildcats led at halftime 27-24, with Reed scoring nine points and Holmes contributing eight points coming off the bench. The Wildcats twice led by as many as 11 points in the opening 20 minutes and their aggressive trapping defense held the Dolphins to 32.2% shooting (19-59) in the 45-minute overtime game.

 B-CU has now won two times in nine career meetings vs. JU (the other win - in the 1989-90 season - Coach Reed was the team scoring leader and the `Cats beat JU and NBA star Dee Brown 71-68, in Jacksonville.  The Dolphins and Wildcats have not played Dec. 1, 1993 and JU now leads the all-time series 7-2.

 Coach Reed added ."The last time we beat them was when I played -against Dee Brown, in this building and it is great to win here because they are picked to win their league." (A-Sun)

11 ROAD GAMES IN 12 GAME STRETCH CONTINUES DEC. 30th AT SAVANNAH STATE

 The Wildcats now take the Christmas holiday off and we will be back in Daytona Beach practicing on the night of Dec. 26, in preparation for the Savannah State game December 30, 6 p.m. start. B-CU plays at the Citadel, January 3 before coming home to Moore Gymnasium hosting Carver Bible College, Jan. 7, 7 p.m. in its first home game since beating Webber International University on Dec. 2.  Bethune-Cookman is 2-0 at home this season and 3-6 away from Daytona Beach.  B-CU, 1-0 in MEAC play, resumes conference action at home - Jan. 10, 4 p.m. vs. Hampton.

"The team is playing hard and practicing hard and to win a big game on the road boosts our confidence. The things we are working on and working hard - wins games for us," Coach Reed said.
